During the latter half of 2009, the double glazing industry petitioned the UK Government to introduce a similar scrappage scheme to cars for Double Glazing.

The industry was keen to promote the enviromental benefits of replacing ageing windows in many homes with new a-rated double glazing. The added inducement of a government grant towards the homeowners costs would have stimulated an industry that supports thousands of jobs across the UK as well as helping the UK meet its CO2 reduction levels.

As of January 2010, although the Government hasn't instigated a scrappage scheme for double glazing, many independent double glazing installers are offering their own 'scrappage scheme' discounts to homeowners.

Each companies scheme will have its own criteria for particpation but if you're thinking of improving your comfort and doing your bit for the environment at the same time, then it may be worth asking your local installers if they are running their own double glazing scrappage scheme.
